Our Library

Our growing library contains over 3500 braille and braille/print books in formats ranging from tactile board books and single-sided, double-spaced books in uncontracted braille for beginning readers to multiple-volume classics in fully contracted interpoint braille for more experienced readers.

The books, which are categorized according to the Dewey Decimal System, cover a full range of fiction and non-fiction topics. We think it is important to offer students lots of choices.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Jungle Book, Heidi, Alice in Wonderland, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, The Night Before Christmas, Green Eggs and Ham and a Helen Keller biography are but a few of the many books from which Louis Braille School students may choose.

A library of another sort is in the works. It is a “feeling library.” It contains models to use as illustrations for those who see with their hands. We have in our developing feeling library items such as animal models, airplanes, boats and ships, a train, cars, trucks, taxidermy animals, a bird nest, and a doll house, and many other items.
