Programs
The Louis Braille School offers a ten-month academic school year program and a separate, two-week Summer day camp.
Our holistic approach includes instruction in traditional academic subjects, guidance in emotional and social growth, and help in mastering the skills of daily living that foster independence. Students learn how to confidently move about in their environment using a white cane. These skills are integrated into every activity of the day.
Equipment
Educational materials and equipment such as books, work sheets, games, puzzles, maps, and computers are adapted so they are meaningful to students with vision challenges. For the child with little or no vision, this may mean braille and other tactile materials. For the child with low vision, it may mean large print and magnification devices, or a combination of braille and large print. The Louis Braille School offers students a caring, supportive environment, with innovative teaching approaches and special tools and equipment. As students discover how much fun learning can be, they are motivated by their own enthusiasm.
