Rotary Club of Lynnwood Awards Louis Braille School Grant
On December 7th, Carolyn Meyer, Louis Braille School director, and Christina Ivanna, the school’s Outreach and Support Administrator, were guests for a special luncheon.
The Lynnwood Rotary Club awarded eight community non-profit organizations funds from their annual gifting program. The Louis Braille School was presented with a check for $2,250. The funds will be used to purchase a laptop computer, projector, portable screen, software and a remote control.
The school will use this equipment in several ways. One will be to prepare presentations for parent education workshops and classes. Through the presentations, parents will learn techniques to help guide their children to greater independence.
A second way the equipment will be used is to tell the story of the school through presentations to potential benefactors, as well as community organizations. Fundraising is of great importance to us. Our school is tuition based. We never deny a child enrollment because of a family’s inability to pay, thus raising funds to provide financial assistance is vital to fill the gap. Our new equipment will greatly enhance our presentations.
During school hours, the laptop will be used to power our Intellikeys learning center. Intellikeys uses special software and a touch-sensitive panel connected to a computer to interact with the user through speech. Our staff can design interactive lessons and games to meet the needs of each student.
Thank you so very much to the Lynnwood Rotary for its kind and generous gift. We look forward to returning and telling the membership the story of our school using our new equipment.
