Imagine learning about all the creators, educators, performers, technicians, and managers who live and work in Seattle. This beautifully compiled work is a treasure for all arts and science buffs. Carolyn Meyer, director of the Louis Braille School, brailled the article on page 220 for Michael Gil, piano tuner. The children of Seattle Academy’s middle school wrote, illustrated and produced this attractive book. Two copies available.

A few years ago Piotr Maciejewicz, a Polish ophthalmologist, asked permission to use our Louis Braille portrait to illustrate an article he was writing about braille. The article was published in a Polish professional journal. When Dr. Maciejewicz learned about our auction, he sent us this unique book.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seeks to encourage the identification, protection, and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity. This is embodied in an international treaty called the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, adopted by UNESCO in 1972. The book includes 24 pages in full color, plus excerpts from Horsey’s interview on NPR’s “Fresh Air” with Terry Gross. A fourth-generation Washingtonian, David Horsey resides in Seattle with his family. This book was published by Seattle Post-Intelligencer in 2003.

Individually or as a set of five, these books are gorgeous as well as essential for the creative cook. Greg Atkinson is a Northwest original who now has a consulting business, Northwest Essentials. He has been the chef at award-winning restaurants Canlis and Friday Harbor House. He published his first book in 1992.
